Gas Purging Systems

Modern steelmaking practices place increased demands on ladle refractory components. Safe, reliable and effective stirring of the molten metal bath is critical in ladle refining processes such as arc reheating, desulphurisation, inclusion removal and vacuum degassing.

LWB Refractories offers a broad range of gas purging products to meet these demands. Gas stirring plugs, stirring pocket blocks and stirring assemblies are available in a wide variety of designs, sizes and chemistries.

LWB purging plugs and seating blocks are mainly made of low and ultra-low cement castables in order to achieve good thermal shock resistance, low porosity and low wettability from the slag.

Purging plugs with different numbers of slots and geometry are available, so that customers can achieve the requested flow rate and enable the operators to keep the defined flow rate within narrow limits.

Our aim is to design and deliver purging plug systems which are easy and secure to install and give maximum safety during the entire operation. If process parameters change during a plug campaign, we recommend the use of a visual wear indicator which is integrated in the plug. After casting and deslagging, a red or dark spot can be observed from the outside which indicates the remaining thickness.
