Continuous Casting
LWB Refractories has developed a line of Flow Control refractories for continuous casting applications. Clean Flow Tundish Nozzles, Free Flow Submerged Entry Nozzles (SEN) and Submerged Entry Shrouds (SES) are based on doloma and are designed to prevent alumina clogging during the casting of aluminum-killed steel grades (carbon and stainless).
The high percentage of CaO (~57%) in the doloma helps to prevent alumina build-up due to reaction between the lime and the alumina inclusions in the steel. This forms a low melting calcium aluminate that does not adhere to the refractory surface.
The use of Clean Flow and Free Flow products can lead to longer casting times, a reduction in the use of argon, lower refractory costs, an increase in steel yields and improvements in steel productivity and quality.
